The answer would be no, as all of our handrail is galvanised, which means the steel is coated with a protective layer of zinc. Over time it will discolour as the weather gets to it but there is no real need to paint it. However, if you buy a good quality metallic paint, you can use whatever colour you want.
Please see the climbing frame photo that I built for my three children over 30 years ago, I painted it green and it has not faded in a long time.
We touched up the colour recently and it looks as it did when it was first built.
Please also see a picture of my daughter’s washing line post. The colour was added recently, showing that any colour or pattern is possible with the right paint, but this is only for vanity reasons as the galvanisation works fine by itself.
